CONFINEMENT OF
RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS

NUXAM offers technical assistance for your new or existing installations, in the area of confinement of radioactive materials

We help you protect your workers by ensuring optimal air flow in your installations. We help you protect the general public and the environment by limiting releases through optimal filtration.
We use the appropriate US NRC regulatory guides and ISO standards:

  • for the design and operation of ventilation systems in order to reach appropriate pressure cascades and hourly air exchange rates
  • for the design, operation and testing of enclosure devices (hot cells, glove boxes, fume hoods)
  • for the design, selection, operation and testing of filtration systems (HEPA filters and active charcoal)
  • for the habitability of vital rooms (control room and crisis centre)

NUXAM also offers technical assistance in the areas of reactivity management and
residual heat removal

In the area of reactivity management, we help you protect your workers and equipment by decreasing, preventing or eliminating criticality accident risks. We assess the main factors influencing reactivity: mass, volume, density-concentration, shape-geometry, moderation, reflection, neutron poisons.

In the area of residual heat removal, we help you design, optimise and operate your cooling chain (fluid systems including heat exchangers).

REGULATORY INSIGHT

NUXAM provides advice on regulatory issues of
nuclear safety and radiological protection

We prepare a “safety referential” report for your project that identifies and provides advice on the use of the applicable:

  • safety functions
  • general nuclear regulation
  • guidances, typically: USNRC regulatory guides
  • FANC directives
  • standards, typically: IAEA, ISO
  • industry codes and good practices
  • parts of your license and FSAR

This report will be beneficial at different phases of your project by:

  • helping you decide whether or not to go on with your project – project initiation
  • enabling you to identify the contactors that can provide you with the appropriate (nuclear- grade) equipment – project planning
  • facilitating acceptance by the safety authorities by demonstrating that nuclear safety and radiological protection aspects have been carefully taken into account from the beginning – project realisation

DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT

NUXAM helps you improve the overall quality, accuracy and consistency of your safety-
related documents

We help you in the production of your safety-related documents, such as:

  • final safety assessment report
  • nuclear safety management system
  • annual nuclear safety and radiological protection reports
  • operational procedures
  • maintenance procedures
  • modification files

We either write or review safety-related documents by using your input documentation along with our knowledge of both the applicable regulatory framework and the safety authorities’ expectations.

CUSTOMISED SERVICES

NUXAM continuously develops new services to meet its customers’ needs

We listen to you, perform walk-downs and consult the available documentation to better understand your needs in order to present you with innovative – yet pragmatic – solutions.
